How do I get the string attachment off a McCulloch Eager Beaver 282 weed trimmer?

I have a McCulloch Eager Beaver 282 weed wacker that was given to me. Runs great but, can't get the attachment off to lengthen the string. Tried some of the free manual sites but had no luck. The serial number is worn off, so that doesn't help
